What is a baseline measurement?

In this article, you will read more about the calculation of the baseline and how to use it to view your progress.

The baseline shows how much is being discarded at your location before you actively start reducing food waste. With the help of the 0-measurement, you can set targets and show how much impact you have made.

The baseline is your starting position.

The baseline is shown as a fixed number in the impact tile graph
The continuous line is you total amount of food waste. If that line goes below the baseline you are saving food!

How is this baseline calculated?

The baseline is calculated per day, for the first four whole weeks of registering. It represents the total weight of the food you throw away every week. Cutting waste is not considered food waste and is therefore not included in the baseline. It is thus important that you photograph your food waste properly in the first few weeks to identify how much of your waste, is cutting waste.
