Actions: Set targeted actions and track your progress in the dashboard

The Actions page is your control center for reducing food waste step by step. In this article, we’ll explain how to use this page effectively.

In this Article you will learn:

  • What actions are,
  • How to create a new action,
  • How to save an action as a draft,
  • Viewing details or editing an action,
  • How to use AI-powered actions

What are Actions?

The Actions feature in your dashboard helps your team take practical, measurable steps to reduce food waste. Whether you're adjusting portion sizes, improving processes, or launching team initiatives, Actions help you stay focused and track the impact over time.

You can find the Actions page in the menu on the left side of your dashboard. Actions live in three tabs: Ongoing, Finished, and Drafts. Once the duration of an action has ended, it will automatically move to the completed actions section. Not ready to launch an action yet? Save it to Drafts instead, and pick it up whenever the timing's right.

Tip: Regularly share results with your team — this helps keep engagement high.

How to create a new action

Step 1: Click the “Add action” button in the top right corner of the page.

Add action

Step 2: Select which monitor(s) the action applies to and click Next.

Step 3: Choose your focus area – this is the specific situation you want the action to target.

For example: bread on Tuesday during breakfast, or fries during dinner on weekends. You can combine multiple categories to make the action as specific as possible. Want to go a step further? Click the arrow on the right to filter by ingredient level – for instance, only bagels within the bread category.

Step 4: Select the type of action you want to work on with your team. You can choose only one category per action.

Step 5: Write a short and clear plan. Explain why this action matters and what you want to achieve.

Example: “Don’t slice the bread in advance at the breakfast buffet. This keeps it fresh longer and reduces the chance of it being thrown away.”

Step 6: Set the start date and duration of the action.

Tip: Keep it short (e.g., 4 weeks) to maintain team focus and make it easier to evaluate results.

Step 7: Click Finish to save the action.

Not ready to commit to a start date yet? At any step, click Save as draft instead of Next or Finish. Your progress is kept, and you can pick up exactly where you left off later.

Saving and managing draft actions

Not every action needs to happen right away. If you're still deciding on timing, or want a second look before committing, save it as a draft instead of finishing the setup.

To save an action as a draft:

  1. Start creating an action as usual.
  2. At any step in the setup, click Save as draft instead of continuing.
  3. Find it later under the Drafts tab on the Actions page.

From Drafts, you can:

  • Resume editing: pick up the setup exactly where you left off.
  • Activate it: finish the remaining steps and set a start date to move it into Ongoing.
  • Delete it: if it's no longer relevant.

Nothing in Drafts expires or gets removed automatically; it stays there until you decide what to do with it.

Viewing details or editing an action

Want to see more details or make changes to an action? Click the arrow next to the action. You’ll then see:

  • The waste level before the action started
  • The current measured waste
  • Relevant photos

To make changes, click Edit in the top right corner. Don’t forget to go through all the steps again and click Finish at the end — your changes won’t be saved otherwise.

What are AI-powered Actions?

Our AI Assistant analyzes your kitchen’s waste patterns and suggests the most impactful actions to help you reduce waste.
Each suggestion focuses on a specific zone and gives you a clear, simple step you can take right away.

Here’s what every suggestion includes:

  • Picture: shows what type of waste this action targets
  • Short title: gives you a quick idea of what the action is about
  • Waste amount: shows the average amount of this waste type per week
  • Zone: focuses on one specific kitchen zone at a time
  • Type of action: for example, adjusting purchasing, portion sizes, or other improvements
  • Targeted waste: focuses on a specific kind of waste (e.g. ingredient, category, preparation state, container type)
  • Description: explains exactly what you can do

Example:
If 12 kg of bagels are wasted every week, the Orbisk Assistant might suggest:
“Turn leftover bagels into croutons: cut, season, bake, and repurpose them for soups and salads.”
Simple step, big impact!

You can find all suggestions in the Actions tab of the portal under “Actions → Suggestions.”

How AI-powered Actions work

  • Our Assistant analyzes your data to find where changes will make the biggest impact.
  • From adjusting prep times to optimizing purchases, the suggestions are tailored to your kitchen.
  • Each suggestion gives you three options: approve, reject, or save it for later.
  • If approved, set the start date and duration. The action will be added to your ongoing actions list.
  • If you reject a suggestion, it will simply be discarded.
  • Not ready to decide? Save it as a draft. It'll wait in your Drafts tab until you're ready to act on it.
